Regular Council Meeting Minutes

 

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in regular session Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 5:30 P.M. Prayer was offered by Alderman Meadows. Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Amacker.

 

Roll call was as follows:

 

Present: Alderwoman McDaniel, Alderman Condrey, Alderman Magee, Alderman Meadows

Absent: Alderman Madere

 

Town Attorney Brister was absent.

 

Motion by Alderman Condrey, seconded by Alderman Meadows to add the following to the agenda: Police Personnel and Resolution # 14-2018.

 

Yeas: Alderman McDaniel, Condrey, Magee, Meadows

Nays: None

Absent: Alderman Madere

 

Motion carried.

 

Motion by Alderman Condrey, seconded by Alderman Magee to approve September 20, 2018, Regular Council Meeting Minutes.

Finance Committee Member Alderman Meadows read the following report: The Town of Lake Providence Finance Committee met Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 3:30 P.M. to approve financial reports including budget to actuals and bills received for the month ending September,2018. Members present were Alderman Meadows, Alderwoman McDaniel, Mayor Robert N. Amacker, Jr., and Lee Ann W. Clement, Town Clerk. General Journal entries were reviewed for the month of August,2018. The following recommendations were made by the finance committee: to continue to review the revenue and expenses for each department and to make recommendations and report back to the finance committee.

 

Motion by Alderwoman McDaniel, seconded by Alderman Condrey to approve Finance Committee Report, and all financial reports for the month ending September, 2018.

Motion by Alderwoman McDaniel, seconded by Alderman Condrey to approve Resolution # 13-2018 – A Resolution approving a CWEF Grant Application in the amount of $79,200 for the purpose of cleaning and repairing water storage tank, replace ph metering pumps, enclose phosphate lines and pumps, purchase chlorine parts, purchase 2000 gallons of phosphate, repair well # 1 as projects for community water systems to provide safe and clean drinking water.

Motion by Alderman Magee, seconded by Alderman Meadows to approve an occupational license for Mr. Travis L. Jackson, Sr., d/b/a Chosen Generation Thrift Store

Mr. Norm Davis with Lake Providence School of Broadcasting – KLPM -LP FM 102.5 presented a six- month report. He stated that they have been involved in numerous community events such as live broadcasts of numerous sporting events of General Trass High School and Briarfield Academy. They continue to offer opportunities for local churches and community groups. KLPM-LP participated in the Nationwide FEMA Emergency Alert Test on October 3, 2018. Their goal is to serve the community with a wide variety of programing. At the present time they are paying a usage fee of $175 monthly in connection with their co-operative agreement.

 

No action was taken.

 

Mrs. Sherrie S. Shaw was present for the meeting. She informed the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of her interest in leasing town owned property at 113 Scarborough Street. Her interest is in opening an at Home Care Service in Lake Providence in order to grow our community, create jobs and provide safe and reliable care for elderly and disabled citizens.

 

No action was taken.

 

Motion by Alderman Condrey, seconded by Alderman Magee to accept the request of Chief Threats to terminate Michelle Lockhart as a part time dispatcher for the Lake Providence Police Department.

Motion by Alderman Magee, seconded by Alderwoman McDaniel to post phone the request of Chief Threats to hire Lee Chester Williams as a fulltime officer for the Lake Providence Police Department.

Motion by Alderman Meadows, seconded by Alderwoman McDaniel to approve Resolution # 14-2018 – A Resolution to approve the acceptance of Delta Regional Authority Grant in the amount of $135,000 to be used for the costs of engineering and administration fees towards the upgrade to the south ponds/sewer treatment facility.
